Job Summary
Position will not have a start date until after 1 December 2019
Works as part of a company of firefighters performing Emergency Medical Services- structural fire suppression- airport rescue and firefighting- emergency first aid- special rescue (includes confined space- high angle rope rescue- and automobile extrication)- Hazardous Materials (HazMat) response and limited natural cover firefighting
Exercises caution to avoid damage/loss of property including injury to self and others. Ensures safe/prompt arrival of assigned personnel- vehicles- & equipment at emergencies
Responds to emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate basic and/or advanced emergency medical care to the critically ill and injured and continues care during transport to a medical facility
Completes run reports and other patient care reports or documentation required by the Air Force; Tennessee Department of Health- Division of EMS; and Fire Department policy
Provides continuous medical equipment and supply inventory control on the ambulance and in the fire station
Complies with health- safety- and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment. Promptly and accurately reports unsafe conditions/injuries sustained while on duty to the appropriate supervisor
Maintains firefighting equipment and fire station facilities by performing functional tests and inspections- performing preventive maintenance on equipment- and performing housekeeping duties within assigned facilities
When first to arrive at the scene- establishes Incident Command and takes charge of firefighting or other emergency response activities until relieved by a senior firefighter

Drives and operates a state licensed advanced life support ambulance. Becomes fully trained and certified to drive and operate all assigned support vehicles and qualifies to drive and operate specific fire apparatus- tools and equipment to allow assignment of such a tasking by fire protection managers or supervisors

Participates in practice drills and training classes in accordance with the Annual Training Plan encompassing all aspects of EMS- firefighting techniques- and equipment maintenance and use

Supports or manages assigned fire and safety related programs. Conducts tests & training- performs inspections- and documents results as programs require using automated computer programs or other methods as directed

Creates pre-fire plans by physically going through structures to become familiar with the layout- fire hazards- and location of fixed fire protection systems and creates or maintains written pre-fire plan forms

Performs work in accordance with the Performance Work Statement and applicable directives including but not limited to Department of Defense (DoD) and USAF Instructions- National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards- and Company policies and procedures

Performs duties in other Fire Department job classifications as required- providing that all necessary certification/licensing requirements of the assigned job are maintained and performs all other position related duties as assigned or requested

Identifies- reports- and protects evidence indicating cause of fire- especially during salvage and overhaul operations

Performs other duties as directed

IND-WFS

Minimum Requirements

Must be licensed as a Paramedic by the State of Tennessee- Department of Health- Division of Emergency Medical Services- or National Registry with the ability to obtain Tennessee licensure within six months of employment & maintain the license at all times

Two years of progressive experience with a paid emergency ambulance service as a Paramedic; and three years progressive experience with a paid fire department or equivalent experience as a Firefighter

To qualify- selectee must possess all certifications- to include prerequisites- which are required for a Firefighter in accordance with the DoD Instruction 6055.06M- DoD Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Certification Program

Required certifications include HAZMAT Awareness; Fire Fighter I; HAZMAT Operations; and Fire Fighter II. Airport Fire Fighter is desired. Certifications must be from the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC)- the National Professional Qualification System (ProBoard)- or Department of Defense

Be trained and qualified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)- and must maintain current state or national Basic Life Support emergency medical care certification

Must have no physical defects or grooming habits which would impede ability to wear protective clothing and equipment- climb ladders- and perform other strenuous tasks under adverse conditions

Must submit to and pass (prior to assignment of duty) an initial physical examination which conforms to NFPA 1582- Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments and pass that physical examination annually thereafter

Must be capable of complying with fire department Management Plans and Standard Operating Procedures for firefighter health and wellness

Possess a valid state driver`s license and must be able to obtain a state of Tennessee Class |D| driver`s license with |F| endorsement immediately upon employment. Must become qualified to drive and operate all support vehicles- and assigned fire suppression vehicles should duty assignments require

Possess capability to attend and complete on- and off-site training courses and any certification required by the Air Force or the Company

Must be able to obtain an SECRET Security Clearance should one be required and must be able to gain and maintain access to the AEDC local area computer network

Must be a U.S. citizen

Preferred Qualifications

Rescue Technician I or II; Airport Firefighter; Driver Operator
Pumper/Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting/Mobile Water Supply
