The GDIT Web Application and Development Team (TZDev) seeks to fill a full-time, Database Administrator role, to provide dedicated support to the Center for Computational Toxicology & Exposure (CCTE) project within the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

This role is situated on a team that provides IT infrastructure and application support to disperse information developed in CCTE and will routinely interface with a variety of personnel, including Developers (Java), Data Engineers, System Administrators, Scientists, and Project Managers.

The selected candidate will interface with a Product Team and CCTE subject matter experts and will be responsible for but not limited to installation, capacity planning, configuration, database design, migration, performance monitoring, security, administration & management of user accounts, troubleshooting, disaster recovery as well as backup and data recovery to ensure the availability and consistent performance of CCTE’s scientific software and applications.

The selected candidate for this role must have a high degree of attention to detail as well as a collaborative and solution-oriented working style. The ideal candidate for the role will be a self-starter and has a high degree of self-discipline to meet business objectives and requirements.

Description of Function:

Install, configure, administer, manage, and document MySQL, PostgreSQL, NoSQL (MongoDB) in a Master with Replicas configuration across several nodes already procured by CCTE for high availability and high-performance scenarios
Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing end-to-end problem resolution
Advise Division management officials regarding integration of IT programs with other programs of equivalent scope and complexity. Lead engineering and architecture activities related to database performance monitoring & optimization
Develop new theories, concepts principles and work methods to significantly improve relational and non-relational data stores for designing, configuring, implementing, and documenting relational and non-relational data stores consisting of main-replica systems. Manage database assets including maintenance of inventory and related documentation
Roles & Responsibilities:

Provide expert level Database Administrator services for production, stage, and development databases across all platforms. Works closely with senior developers and data modelers to perform physical database design for critical business applications/databases with the largest numbers of interfaces and users and complex query tuning and schema.
Use expert communication and collaboration skills to advise leadership regarding integration of IT programs with other programs of equivalent scope and complexity; lead engineering and architecture activities; provide domain and technical expertise, provide technical mentorship and cross-training to peers and team members
Work involves analyzing the user experience of a variety of Agency IT programs and recommending design changes that can enhance the user experience
Advanced knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards
Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: BA/BS or equivalent, 5+ years of experience

Required Qualifications:

Experience working in Linux environments
Strong command-line experience including AWS CLI, PowerShell, and Unix shell scripting skills
Experience with Administering SQL (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB) technologies
Ability to perform complex command-line scripts and perform SQL queries
Experience with AWS RDS Administration
Ability to thrive in an environment without a database management service
Advanced knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with MongoDB OpsManager is highly preferred
The likely salary range for this position is $77,875 – $130,062, this is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
