Job Summary
AECOM is seeking Carpenter Journeymen to join our Calgary Project team to be
based in Edmonton- Alberta. Shift rotation is 5/2.
Carpenters construct- renovate- erect and repair buildings and other
structures made of wood- wood substitutes- steel and other materials. In
commercial or industrial jobs- they build concrete forms- scaffolding-
bridges- trestles- tunnels- shelters- towers and other structures. In
maintenance jobs- they repair and remodel existing structures of all kinds.
Some carpenters specialize in one type of work such as framing- bench work o

finishing work.

Responsibilities may include:

Consistently display all the Knowledge- Skills and Abilities directly related to the Carpenter Journeyperson requirements.

Supervising the workers and may or may not actively perform trade specific site work; must know all the jobs on the site and be capable of filling in as necessary.

Competent in reading blueprints and knowledge of building codes to ensure that the project is completed correctly.

Reports back to the clients and/or the Project Manager on the progress of the job- the estimated time to completion and employee evaluations.

Ensure efficient deployment and productivity of work crews.

Ensure and enforce compliance to all company- client and legislated Safety policies and procedures.

Conduct daily and weekly safety meetings and inspections and complete follow-up activities.

Assess and confirm- through documentation- crew competency.

Review safe work plans/ hazard assessment with crew prior to job commencement.

Ensure that all work permits are obtained and adhered to.

Take corrective action to mitigate immediate hazards- where safe to do so.

Ensure consistent application of the progressive discipline system.

Inspect work site before- during and at end of shift.

Identify surplus equipment and labour resources.

Operate in a safe and courteous manner at all times.

Ensure compliance to Corporate and client Alcohol & Drug Policies.

Ensure all new hires/transfers receive required orientations. Attend and participate in site specific orientations.

Ensure adequate and suitable safety equipment- including PPE- is supplied- readily accessible- properly used and maintained.

Promote and ensure the FLRA (Field Level Risk Assessment) process is conducted before every task.

Report and refuse unsafe work. Report unsafe conditions immediately.

Complete near miss cards/BBO cards.

Report all incidents and hazards to the Supervisor.

Conduct incident investigations and prepare associated support documentation immediately.

Report and respond to any harassment issues.

Identify testing requirements and ensure Subcontractors are available to support daily operations.

Complete termination/transfer reports and submit to Supervisor.

Adhere to project- company environmental considerations.

Identify quantity and scope changes to the Contract and communicate to Supervisor.

Ensure crews use and understand up to date project cost coding.

Monitor equipment utilization and report down equipment to Mechanics.

Review weekly servicing and preventative maintenance schedules.

Complete daily activity reports/daily logs and submit to Supervisor.

Conditions of Employment for this position are:

1. For positions that fall into the list of required positions within the AECOM Oil & Gas Background Check policy- qualified applicants who are offered- and accept- the role must complete a satisfactory pre-employment Background Check. This may consist of all or a combination of the following: Canadian Criminal Record check- an Employment Verification and/or an Education and Accreditation Verification.

2. Qualified applicants who are offered- and accept- a position must provide evidence of a satisfactory Alcohol & Drug test in accordance with the Company|s Alcohol & Drug Policy. In order to be valid- the test must have been conducted at the direction of AECOM – O&G Business Unit.

Minimum Requirements

Certified ticketed Carpenter Journeyman and/or Red Seal

Fall Arrest ticket

First Aid – Standard Level C

Aerial Work Platform ticket

Able to travel- if and when required

Experience in completing exterior formwork / interior finishing.

Able to work weekends as required.

Equipment operating experience is an asset – e.g. Able to run a zoom boom / skid steer / mini hoe and etc.

Preferred Qualifications

Driver|s license and a clean driver|s abstract is preferred.
